The first time I went to LDS Social Services it was for a meeting with other adoptive couples. We all shared our desire to adopt, our stories that led us to pursue adoption, and Larry and I got to check out our competition! :) We were mainly there to be trained and learn the ins and outs of adoption, but what stood out to me the most wasn't anything I learned that day, but the feeling I had. I knew that we were at the right place and at the right time. This was the beginning of our adoption journey and I knew we were on the right path and with the right agency.
I always thought that if I were in a position to adopt I would want to adopt a baby from China. I already loved the Chinese people so much from my time in Taiwan as an LDS missionary. However, there was another plan in place for me and for our family I just knew it!
We had finished most of our profile and we were well on our way to becoming an official adoptive couple! The uncertainty and the length of the journey were a point of curiosity for both of us. When would we get a baby? Would the baby be either Caucasian or Asian? or both? or neither? The little girl who was due in July was part Philipino, black and white. Either way, we knew we could take a little one into our lives and into our hearts and love them to pieces.

One of Many Miracles
Summer 2008:
The weather in Seattle was beautiful. Larry just had to take advantage of it. He decided to and ride his bike to LDS Social Services. At the time, I wasn't ready to adopt, but Larry was. After speaking briefly to one of the social workers, he left his business card and my cell number.
Winter 2009 (February):
Larry answered the cell phone. The conversation went something like this:
Social Worker: Hello. This is Tawnia from LDS Family Services. Is this the Seto Residence?
Larry: Yes. Yes it is.
Social Worker: A young pregnant mother came to our offices today and she wants to place her baby girl in a part or full Asian family. Is your family interested in adopting? I told her about you and she showed some interest in your family.
Larry: Yes, we are totally interested!!
Social Worker: I can't guarantee that this will work out, but if you get started on your profile and paperwork there would be time to get it done before this baby girl is delivered. The baby girl is due in July.
Larry: We'll do it! Thanks so much for calling us. We'll be in touch.
Larry told me about the phone call. I was officially ready to adopt! This call just lit the fire right under me. It was the push I needed. We were so excited!
The miracles up to this point:
1) The social worker actually kept Larry's business card and remembered Larry 6+ months later.
2) Larry had changed offices at Boeing and the number on his business card was invalid. We had disconnected our land-line. The ONLY number she could have reached us on was my cell number. Why had Larry given her my cell number? I didn't even know he was going to LDS SS. I wasn't interested in adopting (at that time).
3) We knew that if adopting the little baby girl didn't work out, we were on the right course and going through the right agency.
Had we sought out adoption on our own, without this push, we probably would have looked at adopting Internationally; however, we both felt good about giving this option a try.
